2022 Genesis GV80 Vs. 2022 Audi Q8; Which One Should I Lease

Spread the love

Here, the Genesis GV80 and the Audi Q8 will go head-to-head in what we like to call the battle of the flagship SUVs. Two amazing SUVs with charming looks, remarkable performance, and desirable interiors, but which one should you consider leasing in 2022? Read to the end to find out.

The GV80 is the flagship SUV of Genesis, the South Korean luxury automaker, and it was recently launched in 2021. The GV80 is a spectacular SUV that has shattered the existing standards of the mid-size SUV segment. It has numerous luxurious amenities and is way more affordable than luxury SUVs with similar features. We can all agree that this luxury SUV is a desirable vehicle, and leasing the 2022 GV80 guarantees great value.

Meanwhile, Audi’s flagship SUV is no newcomer. Introduced in 2018, the Q8 has maintained a sporty look and performance, as well as a high-tech cabin and all its other alluring features.

What’s New

The Genesis GV80 was just introduced in 2021, and as we expected, the fine mid-size SUV comes back for the 2022 model year with a meager number of changes. There are rumors that rear-seat entertainment will be available.

For the 2022 model year, the Q8’s lineup gets exciting upgrades, which sees some essential features like 21-inch wheels, power-folding exterior mirrors with memory settings, etc., become standard across the entire lineup. The middle Premium plus trim gets more standard safety features like the lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control with a traffic-jam assist. The top-of-the-line Prestige trim now comes with adaptive air suspension, which allows you to adjust both the ride height and the firmness of the car’s air dampers. Also, you can now acquire the all-wheel steering as a standalone option.

Engine And Transmission

The Genesis GV80 offers two different engine options. The standard engine is a 2.5Liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that puts out 300-hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. With extra cash, you will love the optional 3.5Liter twin-turbo V-6 with 375-hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. Both engines’ pair with 8-speed automatic transmission. The GV80 can be had with a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel-drive system. In other countries, Genesis offers a torque-rich 3.0Liter diesel-powered V-6 engine that generates 277-hp and 434 pound-feet of torque. We can’t confirm if this powertrain will soon find its way into the US.

On the other hand, Audi doesn’t give buyers any options to choose from. Every Q8 is motivated by a 3.0Liter turbocharged V-6, producing 335-ponies and 369 pound-feet of torque. This turbo engine combines with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the traditional Quattro all-wheel drive, and a 48-volt hybrid system that oversees the start-stop operation.

Handling And Performance

In Genesis’ scale of preference, luxury ranks higher than performance, and the GV80 depicts this. But the fact that this is not a performance SUV doesn’t mean that it’s slow in any way. The base 300-hp four-four-cylinder accelerates from 0-60mph in 6.1seconds, while the range-topping twin-turbo V-6 hits 0-60mph in an impressive 5.3 seconds. Not bad for an SUV of its caliber. In terms of handling, you’ll certainly appreciate the agility and refined ride the GV80 has to offer. It executes corners impressively, and the steering response is excellent.

The Q8 completes 0-60mph in 5.3seconds, which creates a tie between the two SUVs. The steering feedback is spry, but we wish it were a lot more consistent. Though not as engaging to drive, most drivers won’t have any reason not to love the Audi Q8. The SUVs suspension does well to maintain comfort when riding on bumpy roads or uneven terrain. For a memorable sporty experience, you should consider leasing the 2022 Audi Q8.

Fuel Economy

GV80s equipped with the base four-cylinder engine returned the best EPA rating with 21-mpg in the city and 25-mpg on the highway. By opting for the more powerful V-6 engine, this rating falls to 18-mpg in the city and 23-mpg on the highway.

The Audi Q8 gets an EPA rating of 18-mpg in the city and 23-mpg on the highway, nothing close to the best, but definitely not the worst in its segment.

Interior

The difference between both SUVs is much clearer on the inside, though they have a lot in common and offer similar luxury features.

While the GV80 is downright luxurious with its upscale and minimalist design, the Q8 boasts a sportier and more high-tech look. Both SUVs are generously equipped with state-of-the-art technology and outstanding convenience amenities.

Inside, the GV80 features beautiful ambient lighting, a slender and intuitive 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display that stretches out of the driver’s reach, but thanks to the center console rotary controller, touchpad, and steering wheel controls, navigating through this display shouldn’t be an issue. It features Apple Carplay and Android Auto integration. The top trims of the GV80 feature heated and ventilated seats with a massage function. There’s an optional third row of seats, but that wouldn’t be convenient for adults. The seats are made of high-quality leather and are incredibly comfortable.

The Q8 features a roomy upscale cabin. Among the standard features are a panoramic sunroof, Audi’s 12-inch digital gauge cluster known as Virtual cockpit, and heated front seats. The top-tier trim offers massaging seats and high-quality leather finishing. There’s also customizable ambient lighting, a head-up display, and a pair of highly-intuitive 10.1-inch and 8.6-inch touchscreen displays integrated into the SUV’s dashboard and center console. The first touchscreen display serves as the SUVs infotainment system with Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple Carplay, and Android Auto Integration, while the other is for climate controls and other related features.

The Genesis GV80 and Audi Q8 have their lows and highs, as well as their similarities and differences, but overall, they are two amazing SUVs.
