Which Pickup Can Tow More Between The 2023 Chevy Silverado Vs. 2023 GMC Hummer?

Spread the love

Despite sharing a family tree, the Silverado EV and the Hummer EV couldn’t be more different in purpose. When it comes to its electric vehicles, General Motors is going all out. The company has revealed a variety of more electric vehicles, including the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Blazer EV, following the success of the GMC Hummer EV. The 2023 Silverado EV pickup truck, however, stands out among their offerings. There may be a common organ in these vehicles, but the Hummer EV and the Silverado EV are just not in the same class. They’re competing in wholly different sports.

Size

There are two variants of the Hummer EV to choose from. Although the Hummer EV SUT (Pick-up Truck) is longer than the Hummer EV SUV, both feature a wheelbase of 135.6 inches. The electric Hummer was conceived as a luxury car. In contrast, the Chevrolet Silverado EV is meant to serve as a utility vehicle driven work truck. The bed of the Silverado EV measures about 6 feet in length. Thus, the Silverado EV’s wheelbase is 10.1 inches longer than that of the Hummer EV SUT. The Silverado EV is also longer than the conventional model. On the other hand, the Hummer EV’s track is notably broader than the Silverado EV’s because of the vehicle’s bigger suspension cross members and longer control arms.

Engine

The 2023 Silverado EV will debut with standard all-wheel drive, achieved by a pair of motors—one mounted at each axle. Fleet trucks will be capped at 510 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque.  Later, Chevrolet will release models with just one power plant and rear-wheel drive. As far as range goes, Chevrolet claims the Silverado EV can travel up to 400 miles on a single charge.

Wheelbase Length

The 2023 GMC Hummer EV’s 24-module, 200-kWh battery pack fits comfortably between the vehicle’s axles and is likely the largest such pack deployed in an Ultium passenger vehicle application to date. Similar to a decade ago, people will expect the Silverado to put in more hours at work than the Hummer, which is marketed toward a different demographic and is therefore less practical. The Chevy Silverado’s wheelbase is lengthened by 10.1 inches and its overall length is lengthened by the same amount so that the pickup box may be nearly 6 feet long for the electric work truck.

Payload/Towing

Initially, the electric Chevrolet Silverado can only tow between 8,000 and 10,000 pounds, whereas the GMC Hummer can pull 7,500 pounds. However, a special fleet variant with a 20,000-pound towing capacity is promised for the 2025 model year. That the Silverado EV is better suited for commercial use is reaffirmed. The maximum payload for either the Silverado EV or the Hummer EV Pickup is 1,300 pounds.
