Comparison Of 2022 Subaru SUV Comparison: Crosstrek vs. Forester

Spread the love

The Subaru Forester is a popular small SUV that has active safety systems and an all-wheel drive. However, it has a smaller and less expensive SUV with limited parking and budgets, when compared to the Subaru Crosstrek. So, since it’s similar in price and size, how do you decide which is right for you. We’ve broken that down for you in this piece.

Which Is Better ?

Subaru’s most affordable and smallest crossover which is the Crosstrek is pegged at a starting price of $23,155 for the manual transmission, and $24,505 for the automatic transmission. The Forester which is the next in size is $25,505. That’s about $1000 more than the Crosstrek. Interestingly, the Forester has more standard equipment.

If you prioritize saving fuel and the environment, it’ll interest you to know Subaru offers a Crosstrek Hybrid, but not a Forester hybrid. The Crosstrek Hybrid is a plug-in that can be driven on pure battery power and is significantly more expensive than the regular Subaru Crosstrek. It costs about $36,155, but it’s only offered as a fully loaded model with minimal options.

A fully loaded Forester Limited costs $33,800, while a fully loaded Crosstrek Limited starts at $30,800. Certainly, the Crosstrek Hybrid will qualify for some federal, state, and local tax credits to help offset its higher price by thousands of dollars.

Which Is More Spacious?

Undoubtedly, the Subaru lease dealers do a great job in making their vehicles as spacious as possible. However, the Forester still remains the larger vehicle because it’s several inches taller and longer, and has got more room across the board.

In terms of passenger space, the Forester offers more interior volume of about 111.9 cubic feet (107.8 cubic feet with the optional moonroof) compared to 100.9 cubic feet (97.5 cubic feet with the moonroof) that the Crosstrek offers. The Crosstrek Hybrid has an interior space volume of 100.7 cubic feet (97.4 cubic feet with the moonroof).

Therefore, the Forester has more shoulder, leg, head, and hip room in both the front and back seats, an inch or two in every direction. These rooms constitute an extra space for larger families.

Similarly, the Subaru Forester has significantly more cargo space than the Subaru Crosstrek. With the rear seats up, the Forester has 35.4 cubic feet of space (33.0 cubic feet with the moonroof) while the Crosstrek has just 20.8 cubic feet. When the seats are down, the Forester opens up to 76.1 cubic feet the Crosstrek’s 55.3 cubic feet.

Additionally, the cargo floor of the Subaru Forester is 2.5 inches lower than the Crosstrek, so you won’t have to lift heavy items so high while loading and unloading them.

Bottom Line

The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek and Forester are high-end luxurious vehicles with excellent features. If you have a large family and you need a more spacious and comfortable vehicle, the Subaru Forester is your best bet.
